Injuries (shoulder,knee,etc)

Posted on December 27, 2008. Filed under: Uncategorized | Tags: , |

Most frequent causes of injuries:

1.Dehydration, malnutrition, lack of rest. Many accidents occur on a background of dehydration. Tendons, ligaments, muscles … all are rigid tissue and exercises may hurt instead of training them.

Those who are on a fat loss diet tend to eat to little, rarely use supplemental vitamins and minerals(especially magnesium). The body doesn’t consume only the layer of fat but also muscles and connective tissue. Thus,on a fat loss diet the injuries are at home.

2.Wrong training. The form of execution and dangerous exercises. Learning the execution of an exercise may need several weeks or months.Stabilizer muscles don’t offer an aesthetic advantage and the exercises used to train them(see Pilates)are considered boring. However … they are the foundation on which you can work safely in the future. Some exercises popularized by bodybuilders are not appropriate.Beginners see through magazines dangerous versions of exercises, like shoulder press and push ups done at the neck. They put the shoulder joint in a very unnatural position and you can injure yourself very easily.Another exercise of major risk for the joints is lifting shoulders for trapezius muscle made with hundreds of kilograms.

3.Inappropriate sports. For teenagers and young people to play a football or basketball game is a pleasure…but if your time on the pitch is fading away and you have 10-20 kilograms of extra fat on you,you should take it easily and carefully select game partners….some would put too much passion and you can wake up in the hospital with wounds, rupture of muscles or tendons, and even fractures. When winter comes and you go skiing ore snowboarding you should be in a good health situation. Martial arts are also an inexhaustible source of accidents.

4. Intensity too high in relation to the possibilities.Even if in the past you were the strongest in the gym ore you could dribble the whole pitch, try to look at the reality: your body is no longer what it was and will have to gradually increase the intensity and complexity of training.

5.The use of steroids and supplements to increase performance. These substances can give you the feel like you can do more, they can increase muscle strength and efficiency of the nervous system but they’ll not strengthen your joints.Even weight loss supplements containing high doses of caffeine can lead to injuries.

Treatment:
The first sign is pain. If it hurts, stop training immediately.Even if anti-inflammatories can help you on the moment, they hide the problem and the worst thing that you can do is to continue training.Ideal is to go to the doctor to find out exactly what happened and to take the necessary measures for recovery before returning to training. In general, a serious accident will remind you for a long time that you abused your body. Symptoms can disappear, but may return in force if you resume old habits.

Prevention:First you have to match your training/sport that you do with your possibilities, not with dreams and wishes. You’ll not get any immunity if you keep doing the wrong things. An injury can keep you off the gym/pitch for months, years or even forever. It is therefore important to adopt the strategy of the turtle and not the one of the rabbit.
